Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors performed by AMVETS Post #66.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 26, 2005 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. There will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Donald H. Rupp was born on March 20, 1926 to Fred N. and Matilda (Wilberding) Rupp in Cherokee, Iowa. He lived with his family on a farm in the Cherokee area. He attended grade school through high school at Immaculate Conception in Cherokee and graduated in 1945. He was baptized on March 21, 1926 at the Maryhill Catholic Church.
During World War II, Donald served his country proudly in the United States Army.
On October 24, 1953, Donald was united in marriage to Ellen Bonita Connolly in Elk Point, South Dakota. This union was blessed with four children: Donita, Mary Alice, Donisue and Thomas.
Donald was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and assisted in the coordination of the St. Mary's Bingo Program. In addition, Donald was a member of the AMVETS Post #66 and the past secretary/treasurer of Hy-Grade Union Local 191. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Hospice.
Over the years, Donald enjoyed many games of Bingo and solved many crossword puzzles. He also cherished the memories of his vacation to Ireland. Donald's dedication and volunteerism will be greatly missed in the community.
Survivors include his children: Donita Jensen and husband Larry of Waterloo, Iowa, Donisue Rupp of Des Moines, Iowa and Thomas Rupp and wife Trina of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren: Cory Jensen of Arlington, Virginia, Casey Jensen of Waterloo, Iowa, Alex Jensen of Waterloo, Iowa, Nicholas Rupp of Ankeny, Iowa and Dillon Rupp of Ankeny, Iowa; brothers: Leroy Rupp and wife Bonnie of Cherokee, Iowa and Fred Rupp and wife Joan of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters: Irene Bortscheller and husband Claude of Marcus, Iowa, Marie Bortscheller of Remsen, Iowa, Shirley Sims and husband Rudy of Schaller, Iowa, Norma Clark of Cherokee, Iowa and Mary Louise O‘Leary and husband John of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law Margaret Rupp of Denison, Iowa; as well as other extended family and friends.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents Fred and Matilda Rupp; wife, Ellen Bonita "Bonnie" Rupp; daughter, Mary Alice Rupp; brothers: Walter and Leo Rupp; sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor and Bill Dahlem and Laura and Tony Frangenberg; and brother-in-laws Ed Bortscheller and Keith Clark.
