Mildred D. Gnewuch, age 90, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Mildred Dora Lange, the daughter of William and Louisa (Peterson) Lange, was born in Fairfield Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, on June 15, 1918. She was baptized on June 30, 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake, Iowa, and later confirmed at the same church on March 20, 1932. Mildred received her education at Lincoln and Grant Township country schools.

Mildred was united in marriage to Norman Gnewuch on September 25, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with five children: Ardis, Nolan, Iris, Avis, and Loren. Mildred and Norm were engaged in farming in the Newell and Albert City areas throughout their married lifetime. They retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Storm Lake. In 2006, they returned to Albert City and made Countryside Living their home.

Mildred was a very caring and generous person who spent many hours as a volunteer visitor at area nursing homes and hospitals. She also brought great enjoyment to people who were confined to their homes by baking birthday treats and making them feel loved and cared for. Mildred was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Albert City where she participated in various church activities. Her family and friends remember how much Mildred enjoyed her flower garden, needlework, and reading.

Those who are grateful for having shared in Mildred's life include her husband of 70 years, Norman Gnewuch of Albert City, Iowa; her children: Ardis and John Radintz of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Nolan and Darlene Gnewuch of Appleton, Wisconsin; Iris and Gerald Geik of Kalamzaoo, Michigan; Avis Gnewuch of Corvallis, Oregon; and Loren and Susan Gnewuch of Albert City; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Boese of Aurelia, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and her many friends.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Albert; and three sisters: Mary, Malinda and Irene.
