Michael Nachreiner, his wife, Franciska (Frank) Nachreier, and children arrived in New York on August 15, 1854 from Waldmuenchen where they had had a flour mill. Having reached Sauk City by October 7, while the family rested here, Michael and his son Joseph, pushed through the wilderness along Honey Creek to reach their claim at Plain. Joseph X. Nachreiner recalled an Indian village camping in the area of the village of Plain. The Nachreiner family settled in a shack south of the village.
