Davenport - Services for Clarence E. Swope, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military services by American Legion Post 26, Davenport. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service offered at 7 p.m.

Mr. Swope died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, after complications of heart disease.

He retired after 27 years of service for John Deere Plow and Planter Works, Moline.

Clarence Edward Swope was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Richland, Iowa, to John W. and Flossie E. (Marten) Swope. He married Madyln L. Doggett on Oct. 5, 1950, in Rock Island.

During World War II, he served as a paratrooper in the Army.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Madyln; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vicki Swope, Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Daniel Hueser, Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Scott and Craig Swope, both of Davenport, Todd Hueser, Canton, Ill., and Jennifer Hueser, Pekin, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Christopher Hueser; and a very special brother-in-law and spouse, Obie and Karen Critchfield, Davenport.
