Douglas McLain DeHart, 78, of Monterey, Calif., formerly of Fairfield, died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Monterey Care Center.
Arrangements are pending. The body has been cremated.
Mr. DeHart was born May 18, 1928, in Keosauqua, the son of Ernest and Lena Kreiss DeHart. He married Georgia Saxton; they later divorced. He married Nancy Kaufman Aug. 8, 1964. She died June 1, 1998.
Mr. DeHart served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school. He worked in Arizona and California until retiring in 1986. He and his wife Nancy moved to Fairfield in 1987.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Club.
Survivors include one son, Douglas M. DeHart Jr. and wife Amy of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Kathy Yasi and husband Eddie of Palm Dessert, Calif., Debbie Scott and husband Keith of Simi Valley, Calif., and Donna Kraft and husband Mark of Fairfield; three stepsons, Mike Radice of Bloomington, Ill., Robert Radice and wife Louise of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Tony Radice and wife Tammy of Sunland, Calif., one stepdaughter, Tina Kincaid and husband Mike of Keosauqua; two brothers, Ronald DeHart of Glendale, Ariz., and LeRoy DeHart of Keosauqua; three sisters, Dorothy Keller of Belton, Mo., Lou Turner of Fairfield and Carol Edmonston of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.
