Sister M. Julia of Franciscan Order Buried at Dubuque

DUBUQUE – Death claimed Sister Mary Julia Thies, a beloved member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of Dubuque, last Saturday night at the mother house, after an illness of nearly a year.
The funeral services were held at St. Francis convent on Wednesday morning. A nine o'clock solemn high Mass of Requiem was celebrated by Father Warning with Father Kessler of Columbia College, as deacon, and Father Neenan of the Immaculate Conception Academy, as sub-deacon. Father Hanley of St. Patrick's church, Dubuque, and Father Ginter of St. Mary's church, Cascade, were present in the sanctuary. After Mass the remains were laid to rest in Mt. Calvary cemetery, with Father Warning officiating at the grave.
Sister Mary Julia was born at Arthur, Iowa, and at an early age enter the Order of St. Francis of which she was a fervent member for nearly thirty years.
During all these years she served her congregation with unwavering fidelity until her final illness. She was stationed at various missions in Iowa, the last being St. Mary's school in Cascade.
She is survived by four brothers.
