Freda Popp, age 87, of Billings, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Deaconess Billings Clinic, of an aneurysm. Her family and friends were with her when she died.

She was born Feb. 13, 1917, at Plevna, the daughter of Martin and Karolina (Quenzer) Fuchs. The family moved to Olds, Alberta, Canada, when she was young. She moved to the Billings area on May 9, 1949.

Freda married Herman Popp on June 5, 1954, in Billings. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1955. She worked for School District #2 from 1964 until retiring in 1983. After her retirement, she took care of children in her home for several years. Freda moved to St. John's Lutheran Home in 1991. She did a lot of volunteer work at St. John's.

Freda had a great sense of humor. She was alert to the time of her passing and was looking forward to being with her Lord and Savior.

Freda is survived by her sisters-in-law, Zita Fuchs of Kelowna, B.C., Canada, Bertha Popp of Billings and Evelyn (Vic) Hergett of Laurel; brothers-in-law, Edward R. (Sarah) Popp and Walter F. Popp of Billings; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Verna Remmington and Kathy Wagner of Billings.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband Herman on Sept. 20, 1977; her parents; and a brother, Ted Fuchs.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Ocee Johnson Chapel at St. John's Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Road. Interment will be in Mountview Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. West.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Home or the charity of choice.
