Susan Kay Hornberger (Kelley), 60, of 1706 State Route 973 West, Cogan Station, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at the Gatehouse surrounded by her family after an 11 month courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born Sept. 5, 1950, in Renovo, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Charlotte Kelley.

Sue was a 1968 graduate of Bucktail Area High School. She retired in 2006 as an insurance underwriter from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 37 years of service. She was employed by Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity as an Office Manager for the past four years. She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Cogan Station, were she was a very active member of the church. She served on the Parish Life Committee, church council and as financial secretary, and also served as the secretary for the St. Michael's Cemetery.

Sue loved going shopping with her daughters. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds. She really loved going to the beach and traveling with her family. She enjoyed Friday outings to breakfast with her husband and then afternoon four- wheeler riding with her husband. She was incredibly happy and joyous to everyone. She lived to serve others. Her greatest aspiration in life was to be a "super mom" to her daughters; a task which she was greatly successful at throughout her life.

Surviving are her soul mate and husband of 28 years Gary E. Hornberger; four daughters, Keri L. (Daniel) Gray of Marysville, Michelle K. Hornberger of New Cumberland, Katie A. Hornberger of New Cumberland, and Melissa S. Hornberger of Cogan Station; two grandchildren, Jessica and Chelsea; and a great- granddaughter Kaitlyn; a brother, Gerald Kelley Jr. of Renovo; many nieces and nephews; her Aunt Judy (Lester) Brion of Liberty; father- in-law, Ed Hornberger of Cogan Station; and her puppy, Clifford, and cat, Molly, whom she loved playing with.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Gerald and Charlotte Kelley, and her mother-in-law, Betty Hornberger.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 1877 St. Michaels Road, Cogan Station with the Rev. Detlef Huckfeldt officiating. Burial will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 6 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Sue's name may be made to St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Cogan Station or the Susquehanna Health System's Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport.

The family would like to especially thank all of Sue's doctors, nurses and caregivers in her fight against breast cancer. Without our dear friend, Alice Fox, we would not have been able to care for her at home. We are forever indebted to you for your love and care during this difficult time.
