Vena E. Simmons, 83, of Geneva died at 10:35 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Simmons was retired as the director of the Geneva Public Library after 30 years of service. She had served on the South Adams school board for 8 years. In 1989 she received the Limberlost Heritage Award. She was a graduate of Geneva High School.
She attended Butler University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She also attended Indiana University in Fort Wayne. She was the treasurer of First United Methodist Church in Geneva.
She was born in Geneva on June 20, 1923, a daughter of Adam and Ethel (Harbour) Egly. She was married in Geneva on Feb. 23, 1947 to Myron P. Simmons, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Stephen Simmons of Fort Wayne, a sister Virginia Lagel of Dillsboro, Ind., along with two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Egly.
No calling is planned. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Geneva with Pastor Judy Fuller officiating.
Arrangements are through Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
