Ray J. Baughn, 81, Lusk, died last Wednesday, April 14, at Casper. Funeral service was conducted from the Peet Mortuary in Lusk Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Philip King of Torrington officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Edna DeCastro, organist, accompanied Mrs. Walter Fernau, Mrs. Raime Fosher, Richard Collins, and Harry Lyon as they sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Ivory Palaces."
Casket bearers were Robert York, Kenneth Bixler, Raime Fosher, Sven Johnson, Oscar Alexander, and Brownie Smallwood. Honorary bearers were H. P. Klemke, Tom Bower, Everette Brooks, Bill Magoon, Elmer Nelson, Dick Lee, Tom McCullough, Ed Cook, Clair Shippen, Bill Miller, Richard Lenz, Jim Valentine, Gus Johnson, Jess York and Dean Fosher.
Ray Baughn was born March 9, 1890, to Harry Jephro and Mary Knapple Baughn at Tobias, Neb. He moved with his parents to Manville at two years of age and except for 10 years on the Bixler ranches in Sioux County lived in Niobrara County the rest of his life. He grew up during the final years of the open range era to become a cowboy, sheep shearer, freighter during the first oil boom at Lance Creek, and as a road builder when all work was done with horses.
He married Lugena Bare at Harrison on May 19, 1911. To them were born three children; Mrs. Melvin (Estella) Peet, Mrs. Otto (Bertha) Krekeler, and Clayton Baughn. His first wife, Lugena, died June 22, 1940. He married Leona Malmborg, August 14, 1953.
Survivors include his wife; children, Mrs. Peet, Mrs. Krekeler, and Mr. Baughn; four step-children, Mrs. Carl (Marian) Frodine, Wheatridge, Colo., Kenneth Malmborg, Cheyenne, Mrs. Stan (Shirley) Wasson, Lusk; and Mrs. Grady (Evelyn) Criss, Chadron; two sisters, Mrs. Uva Scheerer, Lafayette, Colo., and Mrs. Alma Krehmke, Palo Alto, Calif.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Dick (Delores) Hummel, Lyman; Mrs. Don (Gloria) Daugherity, Casper, Wayne Peet, Spokane, Wash., Randall Krekeler, Santa Ana, Calif., Richard Krekeler, Kimball, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; and two nieces, Mrs. (June) Marsh, Palo Alto, Calif., and Mrs. Tony (Doris) Angel, Phoenix, Ariz.
