Helen Novorr Margolis Cohen, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2011. Helen was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Dorothy Cumonow Novorr and Michael Novorr. She attended Kumpf Elementary School, Paseo High School, Kansas City Junior College and the University of Minnesota where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. Helen married Jack J. Margolis in 1941. They were married for 39 years until Jack's death in 1980. In 1986 Helen married Samuel Cohen and lived with him in Topeka until his death in 1996. She was a life member of the Shalom Geriatric Auxiliary, a member of the Menorah Medical Center Auxiliary, Brandeis University Women's Committee, and The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah Sisterhood. She volunteered at Shalom Geriatric Center, The Menorah Medical Center Gift Shop, and delivered Meals on Wheels. In her later years Helen especially enjoyed volunteering as a grandmother helper at the Leawood Elementary School. She was a former member of Beth Shalom Synagogue and The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah. Interior design was one of her loves which she pursued both independently and at Noel's in Corinth Square. Helen was artistic, creative, fun loving and took a special interest in young people. She leaves her son, Ron Margolis (Maria Cristina) of Durango, CO; daughter, Teri Margolis Cohn (Steve); brother, Howard Novorr (Marge); sisters-in-law, Pearl Novorr, Shirley Novorr, and Jeanette Soble; her 3 grandsons, Michael Cohn of Brooklyn, NY, Daniel Cohn of Oakland, CA, and Randall Cohn of Minneapols, MN; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald and Eugene Novorr, The family wishes to thank the staffs of Village Shalom and Sweet Life at Grand Court, Overland Park for their loving care. Funeral services will be at 9:30am Wednesday, April 27th at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial will follow Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Village Shalom, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
