Richard Carmichael

EAST PEORIA - Richard A. Carmichael, 70, of East Peoria passed away at 10:02 a.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, at his residence with family by his side.

Richard was born on July 27, 1940, in Peoria, the son of Harry A. and Helen I. Martin Carmichael. He married Jacqueline E. Collins on Sept. 27, 1959, in Peoria.

She survives along with their children, Richard A. (Renay) Carmichael Jr. of Silvis, Ill., Ralph (Susan) Carmichael of Bradford, Ill., Rebecca (Scott) Moore of Silvis, Ill., Ronald (Anna) Carmichael of Galva, Ill., and Randal (Lora) Carmichael of Cambridge, Ill. Also surviving are his mother, Helen Donaldson of East Peoria; as well as six grandchildren, Rikki Lynn, Jolee, Gunnar, Sara, Emily and Abby; and one great-granddaughter, Skylee. He is also survived by five brothers, Charles (Brenda) Carmichael of Hampton, Ill., James (Connie) Carmichael of Varna, Ill., Steve (Noni) Carmichael of Garfield, Ark., and Tom Johnson and Robert (Brenda) Johnson Sr., both of East Peoria, Ill.; and three sisters, Cheryl (Jerry) Wood of Sparland, Ill., Sandra Hufnagel of Peoria, Ill., and Bonnie (Ron) Master of Pekin, Ill.

His father and one sister, Nancy Carmichael-Williams, preceded him in death.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from September 1957 until honorably discharged in March 1967.

He was a journeyman electrician.

He was the co-owner of Dick's Sport Shop and Jacki's Tackle with his wife for several years before moving to Louisiana, where he owned and operated a campground and was a self-employed insurance broker before retiring and moving back to Illinois.

He was a life member of the DAV and the AMVETS.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, also at the funeral home, from 5 until 7 p.m. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery in rural Washburn.

Memorials may be given to the family, and they will forward to a charity of their choice.
