Rolf J. Schey age 94 of Brooklyn Center, MN, formerly of Saude, died Thursday morning, April 28, 2011, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis.

A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at King of Grace Lutheran Church, 6600 Duluth Street, Golden Valley, MN with graveside service held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Saude Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lawler, IA. There will be no public visitation.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. 641-394-4334

Rolf was born September 19, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois. He was ten years younger than his brother Arne, and the youngest among his cousins. Closest to him was Edwin Hauge, his friend, cousin, confidant and second father to the Schey children.

Rolf's parents, Joachim (Jack) and Karolina (Hauge) Schey were reunited in Chicago after spending their youth together in Norway. The family lived in Chicago in the Norwegian neighborhoods on the west side along North Ave.

Rolf attended Austin High School,graduating in 1934. He went to work for two years and spent a year at University of Illinois studying Engineering Mechanics. He ran out of tuition money and went home to work for P.K. Wrigley and Company where Jack worked.

His mother died in 1936 and his father in 1940.

With the threat of war imminent, Rolf and Edwin joined the National Guard in 1940. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the National Guard became part of the U.S. Army.

Rolf was schooled in various military subjects and excelled in Fire Control for Artillery, Surveying and Aerial Photo Interpretation.

After the war he resumed life at home in Chicago. He attended night classes at Northwestern University and worked for Fulton Machine Co. The majority of his career was spent working for Elgin Sweeper Company where he spent 34 years as Purchasing Manager.

As choir director for St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Chicago, he met and married the cutest girl he ever saw, Helga Tjernagel of Saude, IA. They married in 1948 and raised six children, two dogs and all that goes with it.

Rolf sang his whole life and together with his wife of 62 years they inspired music and musical events until their demise.

Rolf was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helga on April 9, 2011, his brother, Arne (Helen) Schey, nephew Kent, also by his cousin, Edwin P. Hauge and many more from his generation.

Rolf is survived by his children; Gregg Schey, Aline (Larry) Tyler, Inez (John) Bergquist, Stephen Schey, Bernard (Ingeborg) Schey and Constance Schey.

Grandchildren; Tim (Karalynn) Tyler, Ben Tyler, David Tyler, Jim (Krista) Bergquist, Steve Bergquist, Bjorn Schey, Rebecca (Tim) Hanson Ryder and Katie (John) Crumine.

Great Grandchildren; Anna and Owen Tyler and Kaylynn, Gavin, Lilian and James Bergquist.
