A. E. Woolworth Dies, Carthage
Carthage, April 18--Arthur E. Woolworth, 58, for many years a resident of this village, died this afternoon shortly before I at the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary J. Woolworth, 30 North Main street, West Carthage.
He had been ill for some time. Six years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time had been partially crippled. Two weeks ago he suffered another stroke from which he failed to rally. his death occurred today after his condition had been critical for the past few days.
He was born in Champion on Feb. 10, 1857, the son of the late Elijah and Mary J. Woolworth. After he reached manhood, he followed farming for several years, and later came to Carthage where for some time he was engaged in selling farming implements. Six years ago, after he suffered his first stroke, he was compelled to gird up his work and retire.
Thirty-five years ago he was married to Miss Rachel Clemens, who survives him. Besides his widow and mother, he leaves one brother, H. G. Woolworth of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. George W. Bates of Canton, O.: Mrs. Walter Garthe, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Mrs. Frank Kenna, Braintree, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenna and Mrs. Bates were summoned to his beside the early part of the week by his critical condition. He long was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church hand always had been an active church worker.
Funeral services will be held from the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2, Rev. Charles E. Woodley, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Carthage, officiating. Interment will be in the Champion cemetery.
