Gene H. Mechler, 515 Ridgeway Ave., died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday(11-8-78) in the Hillcrest Unit of United Community Hospital, Grove City, after suffering a heart attack Monday. He was 53. Mr. Mechler was born in Springfield Township, Mercer County, on Jan. 16, 1925, to Eugene and Ruth McCammon Mechler. He was employed as a clerk by the U.S. Post Office, Grove, City, since 1948. He was a self-employed electrical contractor in the Grove City area. Mr. Mechler was a member of East Main United Presbyterian Church, Grove City, and was past president of the church board of trustees. He was a 1942 graduate of Grove City High School and had attended Grove City College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Surviving besides his wife, Helen Louise Ray, whom he married Nov. 29, 1946, are two sons, Dr. Gary E. Mechler, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Douglas R. Mechler, Meadville; a brother, David L. Mechler Sr., Mobile, Ala.; and three sisters, Mrs. Ashley D. (Dorothy) Sandrock, Calhoun, Ga., Mrs. Raymond C. (Ruth Anna) Kirkpatrick, Winfield, Ala., and Mrs. C. Walter (Grace) Linfors, North Andover, Mass. Funeral service was held to 2 p.m. Friday in the Cunningham Funeral Home, Grove City, with the Rev. Dr. William O. Dandoy, pastor of East Main United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
