Class of 1904, North Carolina Baptist Female University (now Meredith College); the first of her generation to graduate from college. Her college yearbook notes her gifts as a mathematician; had it not been for a lack of funds she might have gone on to graduate study at the University of Chicago. She became a teacher in Chatham and Alamance Counties. She married Burnis Bingham Stinson relatively late in life, at the age of 38; she died at age 42 as a result of lingering complications from childbirth. Family legend has it she so disliked both of her given names that she did not give either of her daughters middle names, saying she wasn't about to saddle them with something they might detest later.
