Prospect, Mary 12 - At the residence of his son, Fred C. Waghorn, in North Litchfield, Saturday afternoon, occurred the death of George Waghorn, one of the old and well known residents of this village. He suffered a fall several months ago, while engaged in building a cottage south of the village, from the effects of which he never fully recovered.
He was born in Kent, England, April 29, 1840, and came to this country with his parents when a boy of nine years. The family located in New York Mills and there in 1862 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Payne. Shortly afterwards the removed to Clayville, but after a brief stay there went to Prospect, where Mrs. Waghorn died about four years ago.
For the past few years he had lived a retired life, making his home with his son, John, near this village, but about five months ago went to visit his son at whose home he passed away. He was a man of strong and upright character and was well and favorably known in this community. He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church in Prospect.
Surviving him are three sons, John Waghorn of Prospect; George Paine Waghorn of Cedar Lake and Fred C. Waghorn of North Litchfield; two daughters, Mrs. Curtis P. Wilcox of Prospect and Mrs. Ernest (Florence) Loucks of Floyd and a sister, Mrs. George (Susan) Nightingale of Westmoreland.
The remains were brought to this village, where the funeral will be held tomorrow morning. Rome Sentinel, Monday Evening, May 12, 1913

He was predeceased by a brother, Sgt. John Waghorn on April 4, 1868.
