Charles Franklin Smith, 76, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Wible officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with his family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr.

Charles was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Charlie and Lora (Fricke) Smith. He married Glenna M. Rose on Dec. 26, 1956. After serving in the U.S. Army, Charles worked for the Texas Highway Department. Later, he worked many years for Hammond Industries before changing to the Waco V.A. Hospital where he retired. Charles was a skilled mechanic who could fix anything, and he especially liked to restore older cars. A member of Highland Baptist Church, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed.

Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Kimmel.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenna Rose Smith; daughters, Sherlynn Shoukletovich and Shawn Petty, both of Waco; grandchildren, Brittani and Brianna Shoukletovich, and Kody, Kassidi, Kenli, and Kase Petty, all of Waco; sister, Louise Hairel, of Houston, and her family; nephew, David Hairel and wife, Debbie, of Conroe, and their family; many other family members; and a host of friends.
