MATTA, Michael Thomas a devoted husband, treasured father & grandfather, age 92, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2006. He was born November 9, 1913 in Dayton, Ohio to the late John & Cecilia Matta. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ida A. Matta; brothers, Thomas and Louis; sister, Camilla. He retired after 40 years as a lithographer at WPAFB. One of his proudest moments was meeting FDR on one of his visits to the base. Among his many talents were woodworking, gardening and the unsurpassed ability to make or fix absolutely anything. He was the father of a daughter, Cecilia (Jack) Schmitz of Centerville, OH and a son, Michael S. (Wilma) Matta of Edwardsville, IL. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter: Stephen (Leigh) Schmitz of Coconut Beach, FL; Anne Allen (Steve) Strand and sons Evan and Connor of Charlotte, NC; Michael Schmitz of Dayton, OH and sons Michael (Amber) and daughter Kaarina of Fort Bragg, NC and David of Fairborn, OH and their mother Verena Schmitz; Daniel (Francine) Schmitz and children Lauren, Kyle and Tyler of Gahanna, OH; John Matta of Ogunquit, ME; Tony (Denise) Schmitz of Columbus, OH and John Schmitz of Dayton, OH; Amy Schmitz (Derek) Andrus of Portland, OR; Jane Matta (Tom) Cunningham and children Alexander, Cassidy, Jack, Ben and Chloe of Chesterfield, MO; and Anne Matta (Oscar) Campana and daughter Kylie of Oceanside, CA. He is also survived by sisters Julia (Tony) Osterloh and Mary (Thomas) Calim.
