He was married in Germany to Johanna Durst. His wife came to this country with him. She died on May 30, 1909.
He is survived by two sons, Frank X. Matt, of Utica and Barthold Matt, of Fort Plain; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ditzel, Mrs. Henry Bick and Mrs. William J. Bellosa and one adopted daughter, Miss Elizabeth D. Isele, all of Utica.
