She was born on October 30, 1931, in Washington County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Charles Gulden Lyle and Adeline Brown Lyle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Leighmann Umholtz; and a sister, Louise Lyle Heeb.
Charlotte was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church, and a decedent of the Lyles of Rockbridge County. She taught school for forty years and retired after twenty years of service with the Rockbridge County School System. Upon retiring, she volunteered at Humpback Rocks on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Surviving are two nephews, Walter Heeb and his wife, Katrina, of Staunton, and Charles Heeb of High Point, North Carolina; two great-nieces, Olivia Nicole Heeb and Adeline Elizabeth Heeb; one great-nephew, Charles Lyle Heeb; a special friend, Dennis Gimes of London, England.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Carl Moore officiating. Burial to follow at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
