Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Marion and Mary (Furtado) Costa. Raised and educated in Taunton schools, he later served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
A combat infantryman with the 330th Infantry of the 83rd Division, he saw action in the Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Campaigns. Among his other medals and citations, Mr. Costa received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds received in action during 2 battles within a 14 day period.
A custodian for the Taunton School Dept. for over 26 years, he worked at Taunton High School, as well as the Martin and Leonard schools, before retiring in 1992. A member of Holy Family Church, of E. Taunton, he enjoyed gardening and yard work.
Besides his wife, he leaves 2 sons, Michael A. Costa and his wife Christine of Taunton, and Kenneth S. Costa and his wife Cindy of New Bedford; a sister, Irene Rocha of Taunton; 6 grandchildren, Michael Costa, Jr., Amanda, Kevin, Katelyn, Courtney and Stephen Costa; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel, Alfred, and Louis Costa and the late Agnes Burgess.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Friday, July 10th at 8:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, E. Taunton at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 9th from 5 to 8 p.m.
