TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Wesley Miller, 88, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Heritage Estates in Gering.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matthew Gordon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and the casket will be open briefly prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
Wes was born June 12,1922, in Torrington, Wyo. the son of Jacob and Marie (Herdt) Miller. He grew up and received his education in Torrington graduating from Torrington High School where he played football, basketball, and track. Wes was brought up to work hard. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served as a driver for officers and was a valuable asset as an interpreter able to understand the German language. He was discharged in 1945. Wes married Lorraine Eisenach on Nov. 24, 1946, and they were married for sixty-four years. He farmed south of Torrington for many years. Wes worked with Father Carl Beavers in selling part of his farm to St. Joseph's Children's Home but he continued to farm it for them.
After his retirement Wes enjoyed gardening, rock collecting, woodworking, and photography. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine of Torrington, Wyo.; sons, Barry Miller (Jan) of Denver, and Matthew Miller (Betsy) of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters, Nancy Dunlap of Red Lodge, Mont. and Georgene Rogers (Jay) of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Nathan Miller, Sarah Marie (Travis) Mark, Amanda Dunlap, Ginger (Justin) Mooney, Tommy Dunlap, Myranda (Ryan) Sidoreus, Adam Herdt, Olivia Herdt, Patton Jacob Miller, Cooper James Miller, and Jake Rogers; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Marvin Miller.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Eddie; and sister, Alma.
