Viola Dorothy Schuman Hampy, 85, of Cole Camp, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at her home in Cole Camp. She was born on October 20, 1924, at Cole Camp, a daughter of Otto and Dorothea (Monsees) Eckhoff.
On January 1, 1948, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Robert Schuman, who preceded her in death on August 12, 1986. On May 18, 1997, in Cole Camp, she was united in marriage to William Hampy, who survives of the home.
Vi was baptized as an infant and was confirmed on May 1, 1938, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Cole Camp. She was a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cole Camp. From the 1970's until her retirement in the 1990's, she worked as a certified nurse assistant at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, volunteering at the Cole Camp Senior Center, and playing cards with "The Girls". Vi loved nature, especially watching her birds, and was known for her beautiful and delicious baked pies.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Hampy of the home; three daughters, one brother, Erwin Eckhoff ; one sister-in-law, Verna Eckhoff of Cole Camp; six grandchildren, Kati Dreiman and her husband Jeff, Sarah Theriault and her six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Dorothea Eckhoff, her first husband, Robert Schuman, a son, Dennis Wayne Schuman on March 30, 1966, and two brothers, Rufus and Raymond Eckhoff. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Marvin Stuenkel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Cole Camp.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30
p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Cairer, Travis Cairer, Kory Bohling, Mark Eckhoff, Kerry Eckhoff, Don Eckhoff, and Dean Eckhoff.
