FRANCISCO HERNANDEZ

CARLSBAD--Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at West Funeral Home chapel for Francisco O. Hernandez, 91, of West Lea Street.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at San Jose Catholic Church with the Rev. John Elmer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Gardens.

Mr. Hernandez died Thursday (Aug. 4, 1994) at Guadalupe Medical Center.

He was born April 2, 1903, in Presidio, Texas, to Elogio and Maria Hernandez.

He was raised and attended school in Presidio, moving to Carlsbad in the early 1920s.

On Jan. 8, 1924, he and Dolores Navarro married in Carlsbad. He worked as a bricklayer.

Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, in 1984 and a 5-year-old son.

Survivors include one son, Lucas Hernandez, of Carlsbad; one daughter, Marcela Hernandez of Carlsbad; four brothers, Federico Hernandez, of Arizona, Lupe Gonzalez, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Alfredo Hernandez and Tomas Hernandez, both of Carlsbad; three sisters, Josephina Santa Cruz, of Phoenix, Ariz., Martina Orona of Hobbs, and Jesusita Carrasco of Otis; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pablo Hernandez, Manuel Lara, Ramon Hernandez, Federico Hernandez, Angel Hernandez and Edward Carrasco will serve as pallbearers.
