Bernard Joseph (1864-1935) and his younger brother Theodor (1870-1937) were the sons of Johann Heinrich Ostendorf of Garrel, Cloppenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany - they emigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and 1889 respectively.

They also had a younger brother Clemens (1873-1885) who died in Garrel age 11. In addition, they had 2 middle sisters, both of whom emigrated to and are buried in Hamilton County, Ohio:
Maria Angela Ostendorf (1866-1938) married John Bernard Moellmann in 1888
Maria Elisabeth 'Lisette' Ostendorf (1867-1938) married Carl Joseph Egle in 1889

The mother of these 5 children, Maria Elisabeth Delwisch, died in Garrel July 14, 1874 aged 38. Their father, Johann Heinrich Ostendorf, remarried Oct 8, 1874 in Garrel to Maria Angela Nienaber - their marriage record found on matricula-online.eu. It states they were both born in 1838. He had to get a dispensation from the bishop in order to remarry before the designated mourning period was over - probably granted due to his having very young children to care for.
