Jean Herman Bland was born July 12, 1887, at the Norton Center, Norton County, Kan., and died at his home in Gove, Kan., September 5, 1928, at the age of 41 years, 1 month and 24 days. A paralytic stroke was the cause of death.

He was the oldest son of James S. and Ida E Bland. His mother preceded him in death October 14, 1917, his father May 22, 1926. A sister died in infancy.

From June 23, 1918 until his honorable discharge January 20, 1919, Jean served as a first class private in the chemical warfare service of the United States Army. His record during this time was very good, his service, honest and faithful.

Before and since his war service he applied himself on the farm.

April 12, 1920, he was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Romesburg of Gove City. To this union were born three children. Ida Louise 7, Dorothy Mae 5, and Betty Ruth 2. The wife and children are left to mourn the departure of husband and father. He is also survived by one sister, Vera, of Arkansas, and four brothers: Forest, Cliff and Amos of Gove County, and Ross of Healy, Kansas.

Unto God who gave it, we commend his spirit.

The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the M.E. Church in Gove with Rev. Claude ?Scheuerman in charge. Interment was made in the Gove cemetery. The Georg eM. Scott Post of the American Legion payed last respects to their conrade.
