Larry R. Urvand, 68, of Richville, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Golden Living Center-Otter Tail Lake, Battle Lake.
Larry Rodney Urvand was born Sept. 24, 1941, in McVille, N.D., to Lester B. and Ruth A. (Brekken) Urvand. He graduated from McVille High School in 1959 and then attended Wahpeton State School of Science, graduating from mechanics and welding.
In 1961 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as an electricians mate aboard the USS Braine DD-630 until his discharge in 1965. He met Lorraine McAllister in 1965 and they were united in marriage on Feb. 12, 1966, in Breckenridge. They lived in McVille until May 1967 when they moved to Richville.
They moved back to McVille where they lived from 1969 to 1973 when they came back to Minnesota to make it their permanent home. Larry worked for Con-Agra Flour Mill in Fergus Falls for 16 years. In 1991 he began to drive semi truck, working until 2006 when he fully retired. He loved to go camping, fishing and attending auction sales.
Larry is survived by three children: Michael (Karen) Urvand of Shakopee, Minn.; Matthew Urvand of Alexandria; and Melissia (Daniel) Mattfeld of New York Mills; four grandchildren: Alexandra and Mackenzie Urvand of Fergus Falls; and Jordan and Julia Mattfeld of New York Mills; one step-granddaughter, Caroline Saxe of Shakopee, Minn.; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Urvand of McVille, N.D., and Mark (Bev) Urvand of Devils Lake, N.D.; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Lester and Ruth; wife, Lorraine; and a daughter, Michelle.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church
Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, Amor
