Joseph was the son of John R. and Rhoda D. Diamond Roubedeaux. On March 18, 1946, he married Celeste Grant in Winfield, Kan. He moved to Ponca City for 10 years from Red Rock and then moved to California for 27 years before moving back to Red Rock.
He retired from Montgomery Wards in the tire service repair after 15 years. He served one year in the U.S. Army and four years in the First Marine Division. He was head of the Bear Clan of the Otoe tribe and sang at powwows. He was a Baptist.
