She was born in Joplin, Missouri on Feb. 11, 1946, the daughter of Betty and Charles Coombes. Brooksie graduated from Clayton Valley High School, Concord, CA in 1964.
She was married to James Leland Hughes from Aug. 3, 1968 to Feb of 1981. She was then married to the late Gerald Freemyers of Greenville,CA on Valentines day 1982. They lived together in Greenville,CA, Livermore,CA and Tracy,CA until his passing in 2003. She found great comfort in the loving companionship of Charles Hopkins of Livermore over the last eight years.
Brooksie was a strong and independent woman, a fiery "redhead" with a zest for life and a strong devotion to her family. She worked in restaurant management, as a bartender, and as a real estate agent. She most enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. spending quality time with her family.
Her extensive collection of pigs was a mainstay in her home and continued to grow as friends and family acquired new and unique swine figurines as gifts for her passion. A child at heart, she loved her many visits to Disneyland where she was enchanted by the Magic Kingdom and the smiles of the children.
Brooksie is survived by two children: James Hughes, of Modesto, CA; and Brooklyn (Anthony) Bos, of West Jordan; two stepchildren: Stan (Sharyn) Freemyers, of Chesapeake VA, and Geneva (Tim) Sietzinger, of Melborne, FL; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and two siblings, Charlene Barney and Stan Coombes, both of Tracy, CA.
A memorial service for friends and family will be announced at a later date.
