Services for Helen Eichers, age 79, of Melrose, who passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 at the Melrose Area Hospital, were Monday, Feb. 7, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser officiated, with burial following in the parish cemetery.
Helen Rose Eichers was born March 6, 1920 in Freeport, to Herman and Theresia (Benolken) Rose. She married Lawrence Budde on May 10, 1938 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The couple lived in Melrose and Lawrence died on Dec.30, 1957. She married Ervin Eichers on Nov. 23, 1968 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Ward Springs. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Melrose Christian Mothers and Senior Citizens, the National Society of Catholic Foresters, the Melrose Hospital Auxiliary and the Melrose VFW Post Auxiliary.
She is survived by her three children, Sheldon Budde and Joan, of Grey Eagle, Pat Carstens and Richard, of Tempe, Ariz.; and Mark Budde, of New York City; brother, Jack Rose and Christine, of Freeport; sister, Rita Hiltner and Ed, of Freeport; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Budde on Dec. 30, 1957; her second husband, Ervin Eichers on Oct. 11, 1997; brothers Frank and Sylvester Rose; and sisters, Hilda Rose, Elsie Schmidt and Amanda Zirbes.
Casket bearers were Tim and Eric Lieser, Tom, Kathy and Jodi Budde and Kristen Erkkila. Cross bearer was Teresa Fernandez, scripture bearer was Judy Lieser and serving as honorary bearers were June Hinnenkamp, Agnes Maus, Sophia Loehr, Lydia Schulzetenberg, Julia Westendorf, Monica Schmidt, Marie Frie, Lorraine Bierschbach, Harriet Salzmann, Eleanor Schwieters, Flo Roelike and Dorothy Welle
