Longtime Nikiski resident George Andrew Coombes, 59, died May 28, 2003, at home. Memorial services were held at American Legion Post 20 in Kenai.

Mr. Coombes was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Aberdeen, Wash. He graduated from Moclips High School in 1961. Mr. Coombes served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He moved to Alaska in 1980 and worked all over the state as an electrician. "George was friends with everyone and loved kids," his daughter Kristina said.

Mr. Coombes is survived by his significant other, Millie McDonald of Nikiski; daughters, Kristina Hodges of Anchorage, and Dawn Coombes and Angel Vanier, both of Olympia, Wash.; grandson, Joshua Hodge of Anchorage; granddaughter, Abby Vanier of Olympia; sisters, Julia Dubois of Olympia and Becky Cormier of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and brothers, James Coombes of Seattle and John Coombes of Anchorage. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
