Mrs. Skornia, the daughter of the late John Piontek and wife Elizabeth, nee Aholt, was born July 13, 1925, in Washington.
She received her education from St. Peter's Grade School. On Nov. 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joseph Skornia.
Mrs. Skornia was employed by Tradco. She was a member of St. John's Mercy Auxiliary, WCU, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, St. Francis Borgia Ladies Sodality and St. Francis Borgia Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, in 1974; two sons, William Skornia in 1998 and Larry Skornia in 2008; three brothers, Francies, Lawrence and Robert Piontek; and two sisters, Mary and Laverne Piontek.
Among her survivors are three sons, Gregory Skornia and wife Debbi, Washington, David Skornia and wife Jill, St. Charles, and Todd Skornia and wife Stephanie, Springfield; one daughter, Donna Kuenzel and husband Jerry, Washington; three brothers, John Piontek and wife Joan, Donald Piontek and wife Lucille and Leonard Piontek and wife Gerry, all of Washington; a brother-in-law, Ken Skornia and wife Joan, Hermann; four sisters-in-law, Agnes Piontek and Sally Pion-tek, both of Washington, Marie Zimmermann, St. Louis, and Virginia Bell and husband Jim, Union; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Ann Skornia, Washington; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with interment in the church cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Andrew Sigmund.
Memorials to St. Francis Borgia Regional High School or Faith of our Fathers of St. Francis Borgia are preferred.
