Film director. Renowned low-budget filmmaker of the 1920s thru 1960s. He directed the cult classic "The Black Cat" (1934), and the minimalist noir thriller "Detour" (1946). Ulmer often transcended his budgetary limitations, becoming a respected and influencial artist. Married to screenwriter Shirley Ulmer.
