The Emporia Gazette - 8 July 1971 - Page 3 - " MRS. OWEN GARDNER DIES - HARTFORD - Mrs. R. Owen Gardner, a longtime resident of the Hartford community, died Wednesday night in the Hartford Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church and burial will be in the Lena Valley Cemetery north of Madison. The Jones Funeral Home in Lebo is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gardner was the former Carrie B. Gasche, daughter of W. B. and Elizabeth Greer Gasche. She was born Sept. 6th, 1880, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she was married on March 12th, 1902, in Hartford. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Hartford Chapter 334, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Topeka Council of the Ancient Toltec Rite. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Dec. 27th, 1963, and she is survived by one son, Carol, of Kansas City, Mo.[Carol was actually another daughter, not a son]; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Erma) Bangs, Madison; Mrs. Hugh (Margaret) Jones, Hartford, and Mrs. Earl (Inez) Butterfield, Canton, N. Y.; one sister, Mrs. F. W. (Ruth) Fleischer, Topeka, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
