Parents: Ben and Viola Bell (Peterson) Zimmer.

She was raised and educated in Trail, Oregon until the age of 10, when her family moved to Cushman, Oregon where she finished her schooling. It was in Cushman, where she met the love of her life, Ollie Fosback. They were united in marriage on May 25, 1945 in Eugene, Oregon.

In 1946, Joan and Ollie moved to Dillard, Oregon. Joan was a long-time member of the Roseburg Faith Lutheran Church, in which she was very active. Joan studied all religions and did her bible study every morning.

She was just recently made a fellow in the Oregon Native Plant Society and was one of the main participants in helping develop the Herbarium for the Douglas County Museum. Joan loved wild flowers, her church and painting.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ollie; daughter, Linda O'Dowd and her husband, Jake of Sutherlin, Oregon; son, Terry Fosback of Baker City, Oregon; grandchildren, Kelley Ann Manley; Brian Keith, Tod Allen and Sara Ann Fosback, great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Jablonski, Natasha Jordan Manley and Sierra Ann Fosback.

Her parents and a half sister, June Zimmer preceded her in death.
