COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 06/18/2011
SCHLICH - Elizabeth "Bettye" Ann (Brumleve), 80, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011. She was born November 9, 1930, was a lifelong resident of the Louisville area and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Margaret Mary parishes over the years. She was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. Bettye was instrumental in helping her husband start the Paul Schlich Insurance Agency, which served the Louisville area independently for nearly four decades. Throughout their years together, Bettye was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and constant companion on many wonderful adventures. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with friends, and in her younger years, playing golf. She was a proud champion of the Hurstbourne Country Club Executive Nine Tournament. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Bertha Brumleve; and by her brother Henry Brumleve. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul; daughter, Leigh Ann Clark (Marty) of Dayton, OH; sons, Paul Jr. (Jenny) of Los Angeles, CA, Tom (Lisa) and Rudy (Dana) of Louisville, Alex (Jayme) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and 13 grandchildren, to whom she will always be known as "Grandy." Bettye will forever be remembered for her enduring optimism, incredible sense of humor, infectious laughter and open and loving heart. Her funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road. Memorials in the form of contributions may be made to St. John Homeless Center, 700 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd. or Hosparus of Louisville. Special thanks to the very special staff at Four Courts Nursing Home.
