Elmer Schilling, 37,was running time trials prior to a race between sprint cars, when the accident occurred.
Schilling was going into the banked curve south of the grandstand when the car's throttle stuck. Unable to adjust the speed of the curve, the car skidded, went through the track fence and crashed into a tree in a park area at the track's side.
Schilling is survived by his widow, Ruth, and sons Edward
and Eugene, all of Seattle. He was laid to rest on 06/15/1961.
