Lisa Steger, age 25, of rural Darlington, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, September 11, 1994 at her home. She was born in Darlington on April 29, 1969, the daughter of Bob and Midge (Bartels) Steger. Lisa graduated from Darlington High School in 1987, and from University of Wisconsin-Platteville, in May of 1992, with a business degree. She was currently pursuing a teaching degree in Mathematics. Lisa was actively involved and interested in gymnastics. She coached the Platteville High School gymnastics team as assistant coach for two years, and head coach for five years. Lisa was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was also a Sunday School teacher. She was an accomplished musician, accompanying High School and College Choirs. She also composed choral pieces. While at UW-Platteville, she was a Rangerette on the State Championship finals in 1993 and 1994, when in 1994 her team won the Division 2 W.I.A.A. State Gymnastics Championship. After the 1994 season, Lisa was named the Conference Gymnastic Coach of the Year. Recently, she was selected as the S.W.A.L. Coach of the Year for all athletics. She is survived by her parents at home; one brother, Tom Steger of Platteville; her grandfather, Irv Bartels, and great-grandmother, Ruth McConnell both of Darlington. Other survivors include aunts and uncles, Linda (Harold) Colbeck of Monroe, Barb (Spider) Fromader of Platteville, Carol (Chuck) Barnard, Janette Steger both of Darlington, Jim (Sheila) Bartels of Hudson, Wisconsin, Carol (Tony) Schmacher of Portage, Wisconsin, Jerry (Lorraine) Bartels of Platteville, Rick (Kathy) Bartels of Verona, Wisconsin, Deb Purcell of Darlington; and eighteen special cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Ernest Steger in 1991; her paternal grandmother, Viola Steger in 1992; and her maternal grandmother, June Bartels in 1994. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 1994, at 11:00 a.m. at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Darlington, with Pastor Lauren R. Ley officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 1302 Clay Street in Darlington. A memorial fund has been established in Lisa's name for a Scholarship to be given to a S.W.A.L. Conference Gymnast. Contributions may be sent to the Mound City Bank in Platteville, Wisconsin.
