Fred Ott, 78, Tonica, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday in St. Margaret's hospital, Spring Valley. He had been ill for the past several years and bedfast for the last five months.

Born May 3, 1877, in Vermillion township, a son of the late Conrad and Anna Gutbrod Ott. He was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1928 when he moved to Tonica.

Mr. Ott was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at Leonore and of its Brotherhood. He was baptized in infancy and later confirmed.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Caroline Semon, Tonica, with whom he made his home; a brother Charles M. Ott, Grand Ridge and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers William, John, George, Jacob, Albert and Henry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, Leonore, with the Rev. Pagels, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Tonica.

Friends may call at the Weerts chapel, Tonica, after 2 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday, when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the time of service.
