CATHERINE MARIE GERKEY 89, of 1130 Westwood Dr. passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 1:15 P.M. at her residence.
She was born on April 14, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of the late Christian and Mildred (Fox) Gies Sr. On
April 9, 1949 she married Walter H. Gerkey who survives along with one son, Gary Gerkey and his wife Rita of Sidney. Two grandchildren, Troy Gerkey of Madison, WI., Mrs. Frank (Tina) Pauff of Lima, OH, three great grandchildren, Keagan and Camden Pauff and Emmett Gerkey, one brother, John Gies of Sidney and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael Gies, Henry Gies, Christian Gies Jr., Alexander Gies and two sisters, Mildred Hasselbach and Barbara Meeker.

Catherine was a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center where she sang in the church choir and currently belongs to the St.John's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Jackson Center Jr. American Club. Following her retirement from the Copeland Corp. in 1984 where she had worked for 40 years, she and her husband lived in Venice, Florida for 21 years. Catherine loved reading and enjoyed taking long walks and automobile rides. She will be greatly missed by her husband and family.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. from the St.John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating.
Burial will be at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S.Main Ave. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of the service.

The family suggest that memorials may be made to the St.John's Lutheran Church for the restoration of the church courtyard. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
