ARTHUR M. COOMBS, 47, DIES SUDDENLY AT FAMILY HOME
Arthur M. Coombs, 47, brother-in-law of Frank and Robert Knell of the Knell Mortuary, was found dead in his bed at 7:30 a.m. today at the family home, 1620 Forest Street.
Death was attributed to a heart attack while he was asleep. He appeared in good health when he retired last night, members of his family said.
Mr. Coombs was born January 27, 1918 in Joplin, and was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. M. O. Coombs. His father was a long time practicing physician in Joplin.
On September 30, 1941 Arthur Coombs was married to Dorothy Ann Knell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Knell of Carthage. The Coombs have made their home in Carthage since their marriage.
During World War II Mr. Coombs served as a pilot in the Air Force, in the South Pacific and European theaters.
He held the rank of major.
He owned and operated the Tractor Equipment Company in Joplin.
Mr. Coombs was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Joplin.
He is survived by his wife; six children, Miss Helen Coombs a member of the staff of Southern Illinoisian, Carbondale, IL., Barbara and Jon Coombs, students at the University of Tulsa and Sandra, Nancy and Laura Coombs of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Bart [Mary] Ramsour and Mrs. Bill Lee [Margaret].
This is the fourth death in the Knell family in four years. Mrs. Frank Knell, mother of Mrs. Coombs and Frank and Robert Knell, died last Jan15.
Mrs. Jim Colvin, Kenedy, Texas and Mrs. Helen Held of San Jose, CA., are sisters of Mrs. Coombs.
