Mary met her husband, the late Charles Viereck, after World War II. He had been stationed in Hawaii during the War and his niece, who worked with Mary, set up the correspondence. When they met, they were both engaged to other people, but those engagements were broken and Charles asked for her hand. They were married about seven months later on November 23, 1946 at Clonmell Methodist Church in Gibbstown. They moved to Philadelphia where their first two children, Charles Francis and Kristine Louise (Maguire) were born. About six years later they moved to Oak Street in Gibbstown when they purchased her Grandmother's house. They lived there for over 50 years. Their other two children, Mark Thomas and Steven Richard were born within the first five years of their residence on Oak Street. Our family and many friends will all remember the great times we had on Oak Street. It was like one big family and the Viereck house was quite often the center of all the happenings. Anyone and anything could walk in at any time, even the neighbor's dogs.
Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses, Donald Mcguire, Cheri and Charline Viereck; her grandchildren, Charles Allan Viereck, Michael D. Mcguire, Jonathan C. Mcguire, Maria E. Mcguire, Allison Viereck Bogdan, Ian M. Viereck, Kohl S. Viereck, Derek R. Viereck and Carin A. Pangburn; her great grandchildren, Brendan Bogdan, Logan Bogdan, Christian Viereck and Steven Viereck. She is also survived by her niece, Patricia A. Aynes (Cassidy) and several other nieces and nephews.
Over the years Mary and Charles made very close relationships with many people considered family, namely, Wilbur and Mildred Durham and family, Jean Finkbeiner and family, and all the old Oak Street Gang. As Charles has been missed, so family and friends will also miss Mary a great deal.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the McBRIDE - FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. Friends may gather after 9 AM Saturday until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
