Larry Gurney
COTTAGE GROVE — A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 4, at First Baptist Church in Cottage Grove for Larry E. Gurney of Cottage Grove, who died June 29 of heart failure. He was 70.
He was born Oct. 16, 1940, in Sutherlin to Benjamin and Mae Blakely Gurney. He married Audrey Gordon on Oct. 14, 1961, in Boston.
He graduated from North Douglas High School in 1958. He served as a hospital corpsman in the Navy. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1994 after 26 years. Later he worked as the head maintenance supervisor for Gateway Mall in Springfield.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Portland; two daughters, Cheri Gurney and Deanna Mathis, both of Cottage Grove; two brothers, Wayne and Vernon, both of La Pine; and three grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
Remembrances to the American Diabetes Association or the Cottage Grove Humane Society.

Lawrence E. Gurney: Age 70, a longtime resident of Cottage Grove, Oregon since 1968, formerly of Lakeside, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Larry was born on October 16, 1940 in Sutherlin, Oregon to Benjamin and Mae (Blakely) Gurney. He graduated from North Douglas High School in 1958. He married Audrey Gordon on October 14, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1994 after 26 years. Later he worked as the Head Maintenance Supervisor for Gateway Mall in Springfield, Oregon. Larry's hobbies and interests included Classic American cars, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Cottage Grove and the South Lane Cruisers Car Club. Larry is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Michael and his wife, Anne Marie Gurney, of Portland, OR; daughters, Cheri Gurney; and Deanna Mathis and her husband Tom, all of Cottage Grove, OR; brothers, Wayne and Vernon Gurney, both of LaPine, OR; and three grandchildren, Jacob and Benjamin Gurney, both of Portland, OR; and Hannah Mathis, of Cottage Grove, OR.
