Joan Elyece Heyser passed away peacefully in Penn Valley, Calif., on Sunday, July 3, 2011, after spending an incredibly special day by the lake with loved ones.

A memorial service honoring Joan will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 10, at Chapel of the Angels, 250 Race St., Grass Valley. Graveside services will be held at Alpine Cemetery, 2495 Victoria Drive, Alpine, Calif.

Joan was born Sept. 29, 1943, in San Jacinto, Calif., and grew up in San Bernardino County. She graduated from San Diego State University (where she met Jeff) in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.

Jeff and Joan were married Jan. 30, 1966, and moved north to the Bay Area in 1970 where they lived for many years. Joan spent the last 14 years of her life in a little piece of heaven situated on Lake Wildwood in Penn Valley.

Daughter of the late Norman and Wilma Ide, and sister of the recently departed Mike Ide (wife Camille and son John), Joan is survived by her husband Jeff, children James (wife Rachel) and Rebecca (husband Mike), one cherished grandson Michael (MJ), and many beloved Heysers, Millers, Priests, Ides, Graves, Fords, Lediards and a long list of lifetime friends.

Through her lifetime, she enjoyed vacations with friends, shopping, family camping trips, shopping, beading jewelry, shopping, family get-togethers, shopping, entertaining friends and family at her home, shopping, watching the birds over the lake, and also shopping.

Anyone who knew Joan knows that she was special. Joan's positive spirit and consideration for others in the throes of a degenerative disease — even at the stages where it left her almost completely paralyzed and unable to speak — could only be described as heroic and a source of inspiration to those who knew her and those who cared for her.

Joan's life and comfort were enhanced by the exceptional medical care from Dr. Robert Lowe, the ICU staff at Sierra Nevada Medical Hospital, RN Cindy who watched over Joan's health with frequent visits to the house, and loving caregivers Jen and Monique who helped Joan every day.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the National Parkinson's Foundation.

Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
