Helen J. Gronau, 81, Rosholt, SD passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Rosholt Care Center.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier and Rev. Ken Mund officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalists Lana and Paul Sand.
Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation will continue Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Helen Jeanette was born March 12, 1932 in White Rock, SD to Paul and Sena (Upke) Seefeldt. She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1949.
On June 13, 1949 Helen married LeRoy Jastram. To this union, six sons were born: Steven, Randall, Mike, Chris, Thomas and Terry; two daughters: Shelly Marie and Cindy. LeRoy passed away April 21, 1980.
Helen married Leland Gronau on June 6, 1981. Helen's whole life was devoted to her family. She went to every football, basketball and baseball game her boys participated in and enjoyed every minute of it. She loved holiday family gatherings and made sure that she spent time with every grandchild and great-grandchild to tell them how special she thought they were. She managed to instill in all of us how important FAMILY was.
Helen worked at various jobs in her lifetime: the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt School, Rosholt Liquor Store and the Dakota Bank in New Effington. She also managed the Pine Lodge Motel in Watertown and worked at the Watertown Park and Rec. Leland and Helen rented out houses in Watertown that they had purchased and she managed that enterprise.
Helen enjoyed reading, sewing and dancing. She especially loved visiting, having family and friends over for coffee and feeding everyone.
Survivors include her husband, Leland of Watertown; sons, Steven (Nancy) Jastram of Rosholt; Randy (Delores) Jastram of Rosholt; Mike (Mari) Jastram of Fargo, ND; Chris (Janel) Jastram of Wheaton, MN; Tom (Teresa) Jastram and Terry (Carol) Jastram of Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Cindy Jastram of Watertown; 22 grandchildren, Kristy Wood, Stacy Dahlman, Wendy Moeller, Joel Jastram, Lee Jastram, Toni Kinsman, Amanda Jastram, Michael Jastram, Seth Jastram, Melissa Smith, Zach Jastram, Sarah Jastram, Ashley Lick, Kelly Jastram, Adam Jastram, Timothy Jastram, Nathan Jastram, Ryan Jastram, Ben Jastram, Josh Melius, Nick Melius and Rachel Pepper; 13 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Tillie Peters of Fargo; a sister-in-law, Marlys (Dale) Voss of Rosholt; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; daughter, Shelly Marie; parents, Paul and Sena Seefeldt; and sisters, Ella Boldt, Arlie Maple and Margaret Hart.
