Mrs. Mary Kuska, daughter of the late Benjamin and Josephine Krejdl Stetina, early pioneer of Fillmore County, was born on a farm near Exeter, July 11, 1879.

She lived with her parents on a farm six and one-half miles south of Exeter until February 26, 1900, at which time she was united in marriage to John Kuska. They moved to a farm near Ohiowa and two years later purchased a farm southeast of Exeter, where they resided until 1931, when they moved to Exeter, where they made their home since with the exception of seven years spent with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Tesar in Buhl, Idaho.

Mrs. Kuska passed away at the Warren Memorial Hospital at Friend, January 1, 1959, after a lingering illness of many years. During the time of failing health, she carried on with indomitable courage, always thinking of her family first. She was a good friend and neighbor, and enjoying having company, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge No. 138 and a couple of years ago attained the status of a 50-year honor member. In 1950 she and her husband were privileged to observe their golden wedding anniversary.

Those left to mourn her death are: her husband, John Kuska Sr.; two daughters, Mrs. Mollie Becwar of Exeter and Mrs. Mildred Tesar of Buhl, Idaho; one son, John Kuska Jr. of Exeter; two sons-in-law, Mike Becwar Jr. and Pete Tesar; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Julia Kuska; seven grandchildren, Leonard Becwar of Fairmont, Leroy Becwar of Davenport, Delmar Kuska of Milligan, Verlyn Kuska of Lincoln and their wives; Judy Kuska of Exeter; Robert and Marilyn Tesar of Buhl, Idaho; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Kubicek of Milligan and Mrs. Vic Kovanda of North Platte; one brother, Frank Stetina of Exeter; sister-in-law, Mrs. Matilda Stetina and a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her oldest daughter, Sylvia Kuska; her sisters, Mrs. Robert Doupnik, Mrs. Joe Bedlan, and Kristina; two brothers James and Edward; and a half-sister, Mrs. Joe Sluka.

Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter at 1 p.m. and from the Milligan auditorium at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 1959. Rev. Harold Dodson, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated at the services with members of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge taking part of the service. Mrs. Herman Michl and Robert Kassik of Milligan presented the song service. Pallbearers were Earl Walker, Ed Biba, Anton Krejdl, Joseph Hass, Ed Krejci and James Loukota. The body was laid to rest in the South Cemetery at Milligan beside her little daughter, beneath a beautiful blanket of floral tributes.
