Bio by:
Charlotte Moser

Otto Moser, the grandson of pioneer Swiss dairy farmers in Dallas, TX, was born on a dairy farm outside of Dallas, the oldest son of Christopher Otto Sr. and Norma Nagle Moser. Except for a period when his father’s business took the family to Memphis, TN, Otto attended Dallas public schools before enrolling in Texas A&M College where he graduated in 1933. After college, he worked at a cotton company in Corpus Christi, TX, classifying cotton. Otto moved to DeKalb, TX, following his father’s death in 1935, where he and his brother Norman successfully operated Moser Ranch until it was sold in 1964. Otto managed farming operations while Norman oversaw ranching operations. He remained active in agriculture throughout his career, owning farms and ranches, individually or in partnerships, in East Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Alaska. He served on the Texas Agriculture Stabilization Committee and on the board of the Texas and Southwestern Cattleraisers Assn. In 1937, Otto and Marie Hall were married in Texarkana, TX, at the home of his aunt Mrs. Marguerite Speairs. They were parents of a daughter Mary Ann (Oden) whose husband Steve would later work closely with his father-in-law's business ventures. Following Marie’s death in 1974, Otto married Elsie Smith. In 1966, the Moser brothers purchased controlling stock in State Bank of DeKalb, where Otto served as chairman from 1966-1981 and on the board until his death. He served on the DeKalb Independent School Board and was active at the DeKalb Methodist Church. An avid Dallas Cowboy fan, he owned season tickets from the beginning of the franchise, rarely missing a home game, a division playoff, or a Super Bowl game.
