Death occurred at his home. He had been in failing health for more than a year.
Mr. Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barak Ashton, was born in Signal, his fathers being one of the pioneers of this county.
He attended Mt. Pleasant Boarding School and also taught there. He was a surveyor by vocation.
Mr. Ashton was twice married. His first wife was Lida Holloway, who preceded him in death about ?? years. His second marriage was to Dorothy Hobson Stratton and at one time they were superintendent and matron of the Friends Boarding School, Barnesville.
Surviving are his widow and two sisters, Mrs. Seth Shaw and Mrs. David Morlan of Middleton, near Columbiana. Miss Jane Cope, this city, and Mrs. John Binns of Winona, are nieces and Dr. A.B. Hobson, Salem is a nephew of Mrs. Ashton.
