The death of Mr. Gerhard Naber, for many years a highly respected citizen of Mayville, occurred at the family residence in the third ward this morning at 7:30 o'clock. The deceased had been ill for a long time, but only the past days he was compelled to take to his bed. A sudden change for the worse, brought his children to his bedside before his soul took its long journey to that land from whence there is no returning.

Gerhard Naber was born in Oldenburg, Germany Nov. 12, 1831. In 1859 he embarked for America, coming to this part of the country, and has since then, always resided near Mayville.

In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Ruedebusch, who with three sons and one daughter, mourn the loss of a faithful husband and loving father. They are Messrs. Henry and Franklin Naber of Chicago and Atty. E. Naber and Miss Ella Naber of this city. Besides these, he leaves one brother, Mr. Herman Naber of Shawano and Mrs. Carl Ruedebusch of this city and Mrs. Marie Mann of Williamstown.

Mr. Naber was one of those sturdy pioneers who helped to build up this country, and came here, when this city was yet a wilderness. For many years he conducted a large farm on the eastern limits of this city. This farm he sold in 1891 and retired from active work to enjoy his last years in quietness to this city. Mr. Naber was one of those quiet men, who took an active part in politics but lived the simple life of a true and noble citizen, and in the family circle where his filial influence was felt, he will be greatly missed, and sincerely mourned. His death marks the close of a useful career. The funeral will be held from the family home Friday afternoon. The remains will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery.

Once again it is our sad duty to report the passing of an old fellow citizen. Gerhard Heinrich Naber, this morning passed in his sleep to the other side, surrounded by his family. The deceased had been suffering, for a rather long time from general weakness, but his family had no idea that the end of his suffering was so imminent. Gerhard Naber was born November 12, 1831 in Sannum, grandduchy of Oldenburg and came to America in 1859. In 1861 he was married to the former Anna Ruedebusch from Mayville. The happy marriage was blessed with four children: Heinrich Naber and Franklin Naber in Chicago; and Emil H. Naber and Miss Ella Naber here in Mayville. In addition to his grief-stricken wife and children, a brother, Hermann Naber in Shawano, and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Ruedebusch here in Mayville and Mrs. A. C. Mann who lives in the Town of Williamstown, mourn his death. He had reached the age of 75 years, three months and 14 days. Since 1859 he had been living here in Mayville, where he was held in great respect by all who came in contact with him, since amid the hurly-burly of life in his youthful years, he laid down the basis of the many priorities of character, that he manifested through his unselfish love, especially to his immediate family. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the house of mourning, in the third ward to Graceland Cemetery. Mr. John Herberg, a friend of the deceased for many years, will give the funeral oration for the departed.
